Francine Caruso was hired as a cook for the newly constructed vessel, "Bengale I." The shipbuilders, Sterling Yacht and Shipbuilders, Inc., flew Caruso from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Japan, where the "Bengale I" was being completed.
