This is a direct appeal as of right from the imposition of a judgment of sentence of death, 42 Pa.C.S. § 722(4), 9711(h).1 Appellant was tried by a jury in August, 1979, in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County, Judge Edwin S.
