This is an appeal from the district court for Dodge County. Appellant, Ronald Steele, was charged by information with possession of a short shotgun in violation of Neb.Rev.Stat. § 28-1203 (Reissue 1985), and with being a felon in possession of a firearm in violation of Neb.Rev.Stat. § 28-1206 (Reissue 1985). Appellant was found to be not responsible by reason of insanity. The facts relevant to this appeal are as follows.
