On August 9, 1983, the plaintiff Ernest Cornell ("Cornell") underwent an endarterectomy while a patient at Ohio State University Hospitals, defendant herein. The surgeon was Dr. Gerard Kakos. Surgery was to improve blood flow through Cornell's right carotid artery, which is located in his neck.
