Donald Ray Beauchamp was charged by bill of information with aggravated battery in violation of La.R.S. 14:34. He pled not guilty and waived his right to trial by jury. At the trial, the prosecution and the defense entered into a stipulation in which they agreed that the case would be submitted to the trial court solely on the evidence adduced at the preliminary examination.
