On October 30, 1984, Edgar and Helen Moore's son Moses was born in Candler General Hospital. Dr. McAlpine was his attending pediatrician. The Moores, individually and on behalf of their son, subsequently brought suit against the hospital, its employees, and Dr. McAlpine, alleging that the child's mental retardation was proximately caused by the negligence of Dr. McAlpine, the hospital, and its employees.
