Defendant Laurins is charged with obstruction of justice (18 U.S.C. § 1505) and criminal contempt (18 U.S.C. § 2, 401(3)). The indictment alleges that he obstructed an IRS investigation of Gold Depository & Loan Company, Inc. ("GDL") controlled by him.
