Two employees of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) were injured while repairing an electrical transformer manufactured by the General Electric Company (General Electric). One of the employees died as a result of his injuries. The surviving employee and the deceased employee's wife filed suit against General Electric on theories of negligence, breach of warranty and strict liability; this suit was ultimately settled.
