The plaintiffs sued the City of Chicago ("the City"), Yellow Cab Company ("Yellow"), and Checker Taxi Company ("Checker"), alleging that the defendants had violated § 1 and § 2 of the Sherman Act, 15 U.S.C. §§ 1 & 2 (1982). The City argued, inter alia, that it was immune from liability under the "state action" exception to the antitrust laws, and the cab companies asserted...
