Appellants Michael and Gail Talmadge are joint debtors who appeal the district court's reversal of a bankruptcy judge's ruling in their favor. Appellants argue that when a joint bankruptcy petition is filed, California exemptions must apply separately to each spouse so that the maximum dollar amount allowed by the statute can be doubled.
