Defendant, Allen Keith Guidry, was charged with possession of stolen things, in violation of La.R.S. 14:69. On April 6, 1987, a preliminary examination and a motion to suppress hearing were held. Defendant's motion to suppress inculpatory statements was granted. The State now seeks review of that ruling by writ of certiorari and assigns the following assignment of error:
