In this habeas corpus action, the petitioner challenges the failure of the state courts to release him on bail pending appeal. The uncontested facts are as follows. The petitioner was charged with sexual abuse in the first degree. He waived trial by jury and, in December 1986, was found guilty of the charged offence. On February 8, 1987, he was sentenced to a period of imprisonment of two and one-half to seven...
