On September 24, 1982, the plaintiff, while working as a custodian at the New Orleans Public Library, tripped and fell as she attempted to enter an elevator that had stopped approximately ten inches above the floor. As a result of her fall, plaintiff sustained a back injury which rendered her partially disabled and incapable of returning to work as a custodian.
