The plaintiffs, Medtronic, Inc. and Medtronic Puerto Rico, Inc. (Medtronic), initiated this action for patent infringement against Telectronics, Inc. on October 3, 1986. The suit is based on Patent No. 3,902,501 (the '501 patent). Claim 1 of the patent describes a heart pacemaker lead with "tine means" made of a nonconducting material such as silicone rubber.
