Although there was abundant evidence of the defendant's guilt, the case presents a somewhat troubling problem for us because, after restricting cross-examination of an important government witness, the district court apparently declined to permit the defendant's counsel to make a contemporaneous proffer of the witness' expected testimony, on the record and in the court's...
