On November 14, 1982, Robert Michael Ayres ("Ayres") refused to answer questions put to him by a federal grand jury. Ayres invoked the privilege against self-incrimination, despite having been granted use and derivative use immunity by this Court. The United States of America ("the government") subsequently petitioned this Court for an Order to show cause why Ayres should not be held in civil contempt...
