This appeal marks the third time this case has been before us. The present appeal is limited to the issue of whether the district court applied the correct measure of damages.

I.

In 1978, Cliff Development Corp. (Cliff Development) contracted with Joseph and Clarice Wheeler (the Wheelers) to buy a parcel of land in Pleasant Grove, Alabama for the sum of $160,000. Cliff Development planned to build a 120-unit apartment complex...
