Thomas McDaniel was indicted by the St. Tammany Parish grand jury for aggravated rape, in violation of LSA-R.S. 14:42.1 Defendant entered the dual plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. He was tried by a jury, which convicted him as charged. The trial court imposed the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment, without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
