After trial by jury in the Superior Court in Berkshire County, the defendant was convicted of statutory rape, G.L.c. 265, § 23 (1984 ed.), and indecent assault and battery on a child under fourteen years of age, G.L.c. 265, § 13B (1984 ed.).
