On June 29, 1985 defendant was arrested after he allegedly attempted to cash a welfare check with a forged payee indorsement. The check involved had been issued by the Chemung County Department of Social Services and was postdated July 1, 1985. Defendant was subsequently indicted and brought to trial for criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree. The jury returned a guilty verdict...
