The State's evidence tended to show the following:

On the evening of 2 February 1984, Officer Carl Burleson of the Morganton Police Department caught Edward Marshall inside the Burke Pharmacy, Inc. Earlier, Officer Burleson had spotted a van in the area. Found on the floor of the pharmacy was a duffel bag containing several types of drugs and a change box.
