The defendant, William Toste, was arrested on December 20, 1974, for the killing of Mavis Hardy of Bridgeport. He was subsequently indicted for murder in violation of General Statutes § 53a-54a, tried before a jury, and found guilty. He was sentenced on November 12, 1976, and an appeal to this court followed.
