In these consolidated cases, respondents appeal as of right from an order of the probate court terminating their parental rights to DeShawn Perry.

DeShawn was born on June 13, 1982, more than three months premature. He remained hospitalized for almost five months thereafter for treatment of respiratory, neurological, and ophthalmological problems. He was not expected to live and was considered a special needs child. Respondent Perry was 14 years...
