Daniel Mayon, appellant, worked as a railroad engineer for the Southern Pacific Transportation Co. He hurt his back on the job on May 23, 1981, and he sued the Southern Pacific under the Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA), 45 U.S.C. § 51 et seq, to recover for his personal injuries.
