Plaintiffs sue on behalf of themselves and a purported class of black, salaried employees of General Motors in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. They claim that defendant's performance appraisal system discriminates against them on the basis of race in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. §§ 2000e to 2000e-17, and of 42 U.S.C. § 1981.
