On May 25, 1983, Dana Constance Fowler left her place of employment at the Down the Street Restaurant in Birmingham, Alabama, to go home for the evening. The next morning, her battered corpse was found lying alongside a road in rural Jefferson County. She had been shot twice in the head with a .38 caliber pistol.
