The defendant, Floyd Augustine, was charged by a grand jury indictment with the crime of second degree murder, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:30.1. On August 16, 1984, the defendant, accompanied by court-appointed counsel, waived formal arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty.
