JOHNSON, Circuit Judge:

In this appeal, we consider for the second time whether the district court abused its discretion in dismissing a civil rights plaintiff's complaint with prejudice and assessing over $30,000 in attorney's fees and costs. In the first appeal, we affirmed the district court's decision to impose sanctions, but remanded the case for consideration of whether some sanction short of dismissal would achieve the important deterrent value of Rule 37....
