He contends that he is entitled to a new trial because the trial judge failed to conduct the mandatory inquiry under N.C.G.S. § 15A-1242 before allowing his request to remove his appointed counsel and represent himself; that the trial judge committed reversible error in admitting testimony about an inculpatory statement by defendant without first conducting a voir dire hearing...
