Defendant, Thomas Kokoraleis, was charged by indictment with the murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, par. 9-1(a)(1)) and rape (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, par. 11-1(a)) of Lorraine Borowski.
