In his first assignment of error, defendant challenges the court's denial of his pre-trial motion to suppress evidence discovered in a search of the area in which defendant was arrested. N.C.Gen.Stat. Sec. 15A-977 in pertinent part provides:

(a) A motion to suppress evidence in superior court ... must state the grounds upon which it is made. The motion must be accompanied by an affidavit containing facts supporting the motion. ...
