On March 16, 1981, plaintiff Competex obtained a final judgment in England, requiring defendant LaBow to pay plaintiff 187,929.82 English pounds. Defendant never paid that judgment. As a consequence, on April 28, 1981, plaintiff brought a diversity action in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York to enforce the English judgment.
