Upon defendants' pleas of guilty to second degree murder, first degree kidnapping and armed robbery and following a sentencing hearing pursuant to North Carolina's Fair Sentencing Act, N.C.Gen.Stat. §§ 15A-1340.1 to 1340.4 (1983), defendants received sentences of life imprisonment for second degree murder.
