Defendant assigns as error the trial judge's denial of his motions to dismiss at the close of the State's evidence and at the conclusion of all evidence. G.S. 14-318.4 provides in pertinent part:

(a) Any parent of a child less than 16 years of age, or any other person providing care to or supervision of the child who intentionally inflicts any serious physical injury which results in: (1) Permanent disfigurement, or (2)...
