The defendant, Sherman Miles, and his codefendant, Richard McClendon, who is not a party to this appeal, were charged with the crime of robbery in the first degree in violation of § 53a-134 (a) (4) of the General Statutes.1 Both pleaded not guilty and elected trial by jury.
