Defendant, Patrick Ross, was convicted in a jury trial and concurrently sentenced to 70 years' imprisonment for murder and 30 years for aggravated kidnaping. (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, pars. 9-1(a-3), 10-2(3).) On appeal, defendant raises the following issues: (1) whether the United States or Illinois constitutions require that a written or recorded transcript be made of evidence presented...
