Robert L. Hunley pleaded guilty to two counts of selling phencyclidine and one count of selling marijuana, in violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment. He filed a timely pro se notice of appeal, and thereafter the trial court appointed counsel to prosecute the appeal. See generally Smith v. State, 253 Ga. 169 (316 S.E.2d 757
