The defendant, Charles Walker, pleaded guilty in the circuit court of St. Clair County to two counts of murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1983, ch. 38, par. 9-1) and to one count of armed robbery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1983, ch. 38, par. 18-2). The court entered judgments on the pleas, and a jury was impaneled to decide whether the death sentence should be imposed.
