The State, through the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), instituted this expropriation suit in order to acquire a tract of land on which a portion of I-49 is to be constructed. After the suit was filed and the property was taken, the defendants subsequently filed their answer wherein they demanded additional compensation over the amount deposited by the DOTD.
