In November 1981, petitioner, while an inmate at Georgia State Prison, was convicted of the aggravated assault of another prisoner. Following his conviction petitioner expressed dissatisfaction with his appointed trial counsel's performance, but nonetheless requested that trial counsel pursue an appeal on his behalf.
