In 1982, the present petitioner was tried for the arson of his own house, and in a joint trial his then wife was tried for conspiracy to commit the same act of arson. The wife was acquitted, but the petitioner was convicted and sentenced to serve a term of imprisonment and to pay a fine. The petitioner took a direct appeal from his conviction, which we affirmed in State v. Hopps, 123 N.H. 541, 465 A.2d 1206 (1983)...
