Expeditious review of criminal convictions should be the norm. Review must come quickly in order to relieve those in prison of the continuing effects of a wrongful conviction. A day in jail cannot be reclaimed. And if the error is one that can be repaired in a second trial, a prompt decision is essential so that this second trial will yield an accurate result.
