Appellee Edmond McKinley, formerly a police officer with the City of Pineville, Louisiana, brought this § 1983 suit against Pineville and its mayor, Fred Baden, and a pendent defamation claim solely against Baden. After a bench trial, the district court found for McKinley on both claims and awarded $75,000 in punitive damages and $25,000 in attorney fees against Pineville and Baden jointly and severally on the § 1983 claim
