Plaintiff filed this action to recover damages for injuries he sustained when, as a customer in the defendant's grocery store, he tripped and fell over a box that was adjacent to an aisle in the store. The trial court awarded the plaintiff general damages of $30,000 but reduced this amount by 75%, this being the amount assessed for the plaintiff's contributory negligence.
