Appellants, City of Bakersfield and one of its police officers, Burton Mahan, appeal from the judgment entered against them on December 9, 1983, as modified by the trial court's remittitur entered on February 7, 1984, and consented to by respondents on February 14, 1984.

The question presented is whether the trial court should have permitted appellants to call a veteran police...
