The defendant, Michael C. Tuitt, was convicted of armed robbery while masked, G.L.c. 265, § 17, and of carrying a firearm without a permit, G.L.c. 269, § 10 (a). On the basis of several prior offenses, he was punished as an habitual offender under G.L.c. 279, § 25, and sentenced to life imprisonment.
