W.D. Standard sued his employer, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company (Santa Fe), for personal injuries under the Federal Employer's Liability Act, (FELA), 45 U.S.C.A. sec. 51 et seq. (1972). Plaintiff injured his back while working as a locomotive engineer on a work train. The injury occurred as plaintiff attempted to board the locomotive.
