In 1982 Munz pled guilty to a charge of sexual exploitation of children in violation of Iowa Code section 728.12 (1981) pursuant to a plea bargain under which other charges were dropped. No motion in arrest of judgment was filed. His direct appeal of his conviction was dismissed by the Iowa Supreme Court on the ground that the appeal was frivolous.
