On August 30, 1983, two police officers went to a wooded area in the Town of Norwich, Chenango County, to investigate suspected illegal deer jacking or growing of marihuana. While walking down a trail, they came upon a thin rope with small bells on it stretched across the path about 1½ feet above the ground.
