The defendant, John Thomas Campbell, was charged by a true bill with the crime of aggravated rape, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:42. On August 13, 1984, jury selection began for this case. On August 15, 1984, the twelve-member jury returned a unanimous verdict of guilty as charged. On August 21, 1984, the defendant filed a motion for a new trial, which was denied by the district court.
